The Technician Supervisor - Cleanroom Operations is responsible for the direct supervision of pharmacy technicians and cleanroom support personnel engaged in sterile and non sterile compounding operations. This role manages day to day cleanroom operations, personnel scheduling, training, and workflow to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant compounding practices.
This position does not perform or oversee pharmacist only functions. All clinical judgment, verification, release, and other pharmacist specific responsibilities are retained by the General Pharmacy Manager. The Technician Supervisor operates under pharmacist oversight and serves as the operational and people leader for the cleanroom workforce.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Optimizes workflow and processes within the pharmacy to ensure timely and accurate dispensing of medications.
Implements quality assurance programs to monitor and maintain the accuracy, safety, and quality of medications and pharmacy services.
Monitors medication expiration dates, minimize waste, and maintains appropriate stock levels to meet patient demand.
Coordinates and delegates tasks among pharmacy staff to meet patient needs and maintain service levels.
Identifies opportunities for process improvement, workflow efficiency, and cost savings within the pharmacy department.
Ensures compliance with applicable pharmacy laws, regulations, and standards.
Coordinates with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to optimize patient care and medication management.
Conducts performance evaluations and provides feedback to pharmacy staff.
Supervises and manages a team of pharmacy technicians, and other pharmacy staff by providing leadership, guidance, and support to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the pharmacy department.
Cleanroom Operations & Workflow (40%)
- Direct and coordinate daily cleanroom operations to ensure production targets, turnaround times, and quality standards are met.
- Monitor cleanroom workflow, staffing levels, and task prioritization to maintain continuous, compliant operations.
- Serve as the primary operational point of contact for cleanroom issues, escalating clinical, safety, or regulatory concerns to the General Pharmacy Manager.
- Partner with pharmacy leadership to implement process improvements, efficiency initiatives, and workload balancing.
Personnel Supervision & Development (30%)
- Supervise, coach, train, and mentor pharmacy technicians and cleanroom staff.
- Ensure technician onboarding, initial qualification, annual competency, and ongoing training requirements are completed and documented.
- Provide real‑time feedback, coaching, and corrective action in accordance with HR and company policy.
- Conduct performance evaluations and support employee development and engagement.
Regulatory Compliance & Quality (20%)
- Ensure cleanroom operations comply with USP <795>, <797>, <800>, state board of pharmacy rules, and internal policies.
- Oversee adherence to gowning, cleaning, environmental monitoring, aseptic technique, and documentation requirements.
- Support audits, inspections, and certifications by maintaining inspection‑ready conditions and records.
- Participate in investigations, root cause analyses, and CAPA activities related to cleanroom operations (non‑clinical scope only).
Cross‑Functional Coordination (10%)
- Collaborate with pharmacy leadership, quality, facilities, and external vendors to support cleanroom maintenance, environmental monitoring, and certification activities.
- Support implementation of operational programs, system changes, and process rollouts impacting technicians and cleanroom staff.
Education
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Preferred: Associate or Bachelor's Degree
Licensure & Certification
- Current Pharmacy Technician registration/license as required by state law
- National Pharmacy Technician Certification (preferred)
Prior Relevant Work Experience
Required: 1-3 years of pharmacy technician or cleanroom experience
Preferred: 3-5 years of sterile compounding or cleanroom operations experience
Essential Qualifications
Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience in a pharmacy or cleanroom setting
- Strong working knowledge of cleanroom operations, aseptic technique, and environmental controls
- Ability to interpret and apply operational requirements of USP and state regulations
- Strong organizational, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, regulated production environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft business applications
- Regular and reliable attendance
- Ability to perform job functions requiring standing, gowning, and cleanroom entry as required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting regulatory inspections or cleanroom certification
- Experience leading technician training or competency programs

Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$43,888.00 - $93,574.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
