Description
Position OverviewThe Student Engagement Center at the University of Kansas serves as a hub for student involvement, leadership development, impact programs and resources, and community programs. Through the Student Engagement Center, KU students deepen their connection to each other and KU by exploring communities and opportunities to thrive during their Jayhawk experience. Students will engage through registered student organizations, leadership experiences, and professional development workshops. The Center will impact students by providing for direct needs in the Campus Cupboard, Pregnant and Parenting Pantry, clothing closets, and the Emergency Aid Network. Jayhawks will build community as they connect with peers and engage in student support programs. The Student Engagement Center enhances existing programs by providing greater resources and deeper connections across Student Affairs.
The Program Coordinator for Impact Programs is responsible for overseeing the daily operations for the Impact Services, including the Campus Cupboard, Clothing Closets, and Pregnant and Parenting Resource Pantry.
The Program Coordinator reports to the Associate Director of Impact Programs in the Student Engagement Center. Student Affairs at the University of Kansas makes learning possible through programs and services designed to support students across their KU experience as they achieve their academic and personal goals. Student Affairs serves as an advocate for students across the University community.
Job Description
55% Daily Operations
- Oversee Campus Cupboard inventory, coordinate with partner food distributors, stock shelves, coordinate food runs, and maintain cleanliness and organization of the pantry.
- Lead the development and implementation of campus food, clothing and item drives that support the various closets and pantries within the Student Engagement Center.
- Oversee marketing and communication efforts for the impact services.
- Assist individuals with applying for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits by providing education, outreach, and one-on-one support through the application process and ensuring accurate submissions while maintaining confidentiality.
- Participate in food safety, food insecurity and partner (Big 12 and Just Foods) training.
- Participate in donor events that help provide resources that support the impact services.
- Engage in grant writing to assist in securing financial resources to support the operations of the impact services.
- Conduct outreach to community resources that help diversify the Campus Cupboard shelves with respect to dietary and cultural needs.
- Manage the budgets associated with the Campus Cupboard.
15% Supervision
- Supervise and provide leadership, direction, training and support to one graduate assistants and undergraduate student employees working in the Campus Cupboard regarding daily operations.
- Coordinate volunteer engagement opportunities and provide direction and instruction regarding their responsibilities in supporting the impact programs services.
- Communicate updates, scheduling adjustments, and operational changes efficiently to staff, volunteers, and customers.
15% Education
- Develop and implement workshops for KU students, staff and faculty on food security and the Campus Cupboard.
- Host tabling and informational events around campus to expand awareness regarding the impact services.
- Create and oversee programming and educational events related to food insecurity and hunger justice.
- Establish a resource hub for alternative organizations in the community and on campus.
10% Assessment and Administration
- Develop, monitor, and evaluate program learning outcomes. Ensure all registered student organization and community programming advances departmental, Student Affairs, and university learning outcomes; this includes the submission of monthly data points and identifying trends over time and projections for future needs.
- Track developing trends as reported by national organizations working to alleviate food insecurity: Stop Hunger Now, Feeding America, etc.

- Serve on the Student Engagement Center, Student Affairs, and university-wide committees as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- This position is required to work on-site.
- This position requires some evening and weekend work.
- Lift up to 50 lbs with or without assistance.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree or bachelor's degree plus two years or related work experience.
- One year experience using the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Two years experience customer service.
- One year of full-time experience working with college students through programs and services. Two years working as a Graduate Assistant will count towards one year of professional work.
- Experience developing and implementing educational materials, programs, and workshops, as evidenced in application materials.
- Applied knowledge of best practices and national trends impacting student involvement, engagement, and leadership development as demonstrated through work history.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of students, staff, faculty, administrators, and other members of the community, as evidenced in application materials.
- Strong written communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
- Experience creating marketing materials and using social media in a professional setting, as evidenced by application materials.
