General Summary
Under the direction of the Parks & Recreation Director or designee, the Recreation Supervisor coordinates and directs parks and recreational activities and programs as assigned, including program scheduling, staffing, marketing/promoting, budgeting, reporting and facility management. Provides highly responsible assistance to the Parks & Recreation Director. Some evening and weekend hours are required for events, meetings and other items as assigned.
Essential Job Functions

- Plans, develops organizes, implements, promotes and supervises a variety of community services, recreational programs and events.
- Plans develops and promotes festivals, concerts and other special events; works cooperatively with staff, volunteer organizations, other departments, outside agencies and boards to ensure event success.
- Plans, promotes and supervises day camp programs.
- Supervises and trains seasonal departmental personnel and volunteers as assigned. Participates in the selection of seasonal staff, provides and coordinates staff training; inspects work being performed; works with employees to correct deficiencies; recommends and participates in disciplinary process.
- Performs outreach to obtain program/activity/event sponsorships and fundraising.
- Actively seeks new programming for the community and establishes schedules and methods for providing recreation services. Maintains awareness of new trends and developments in the recreation field; incorporating new developments as appropriate into programs and events.
- Maintains and designs electronic promotion of programs and events through print and social media. Including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, etc.
- Create operational budgets and summary reports for programs and events. Submits budget recommendations and maintains budgets for programs and facilities that are under employee’s supervision.
- Prepare reports for management. Maintains files and records for programs and events.
- Provide program and event information for inclusion in the seasonal activity brochure.
- Assists in the registration and administrative duties within the department’s offices as needed.
- Serves as staff liaison on various department or community related committees, sub-committees and boards as assigned. Participates in monthly parks committee and board meetings.
- Represent the Charter Township of Waterford and the Parks and Recreation Department with a high level of integrity and professionalism.

Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelors Degree awarded by an accredited college or university in Recreation, Recreation Management, Recreation Administration, Commercial Recreation or similar program of study.
- Minimum of three (3) years of increasing responsibility in municipal recreation with a focus on events, day camps and facility management experience.
- Ability to create comprehensive print and social media marketing material for all programs.
- Ability to plan and oversee multiple programs and events at the same time.
- Ability to manage and supervise part-time staff, seasonal staff, caretakers and volunteers. Must be self motivated with the ability to develop an independent work plan, prioritize tasks effectively, and adhere to deadlines.
- Work a flexible schedule that will include nights and weekends.
- Must possess a working knowledge of common recreational and social needs of various groups of people.
- Experience preferred using or developing office procedures, methods and equipment using computers and applicable software applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, RecPro, DaySmart and Promotional and advertising software.
- Experience coordinating activities with school districts, county, private agencies, public office, etc.
- Ability to meet with the public to establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to maintain a courteous and cooperative attitude fostering a positive and productive workplace.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid C.P.R./AED Certificate and Basic First Aid Training.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Skills test required.
- Must possess intermediate word processing, database and spreadsheet software skills. Skills test required.
- Must possess a valid Michigan’s Drivers License and meet the Township’s driving standards.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to perform a majority of essential job functions in an environmentally controlled office setting and at indoor and outdoor recreational facilities in all weather conditions and on varying working surfaces. This is a physically demanding position, requiring a limited range of motion and the use of both fine and gross muscles of the total body. Rest periods are assigned. The employee is regularly required to lift objects of ± 40 pounds 3 or more times per day with occasional lifts of ± 70 pounds required. Grasping of hand tools (such as staplers, screw drivers, pliers, etc.) under light torque load is common. The largest grasping pattern is approximately 14 inches. Vibration is not a factor. Most work is performed either standing flat-footed or in a seated position. The ability to accomplish data input is essential. The employee may be required to pull/push/lift and carry mid-range objects, such as apparatus lockers, luggage, and sports equipment. The employee must be able to manually write and work with a computer keyboard. Good vision is required. Limited hearing is acceptable. The ability to hear may affect the productivity of this position; accommodation must be reviewed for reasonableness. This position is not conducive to the use of mobility assist devices such as wheelchairs, walkers etc.
