Position description:
The Organizer will serve as the primary organizing professional for Opportunity Arizona and will
report to the Political and Advocacy Manager. They will be responsible for forming and
cultivating existing relationships with individuals, businesses, partner organizations, and other
community members to engage them with Opportunity Arizona’s grassroots work and connect
them with opportunities to interface with decision makers through public hearings, community
events and phone calls. Organizing efforts will be focused in Maricopa County, but will also
include engaging with individuals across the state. This position will include executing grassroots
organizing tactics in collaboration with coalition partner organizations on utility rate-setting and
affordability issues impacting Arizonans.
Tasks will include:
Writing digital and phone-based volunteer recruitment and voter contact scripts
(email, SMS, P2P, phone).
Recruiting volunteers and soliciting stories from Opportunity Arizona’s activist list
by making phone calls; sending emails/peer-to-peer texts; SMS messages, etc.;
and organizing occasional group events to generate action.
Moving supporters up Opportunity Arizona’s Ladder of Engagement, turning them
into advocates for our issues, by utilizing our powerful theories of change.
Managing Opportunity Arizona’s data in EveryAction and VAN (ensuring data is clean
and inputting key interests, and opportunities for further engagement).
Strategizing ongoing digital communication tactics as they relate to organizing
with the Political and Advocacy Manager and Opportunity Arizona’s
communications staff and consultants.
Attending coalition meetings and sharing outcomes/brainstorming further
engagement with the Political and Advocacy Manager.
Participating in regular check-ins with Opportunity Arizona’s suite of consultants to
help ensure all organizing efforts are complementary and coordinated.
Directing outreach efforts into key targeted legislative districts.
Tabling at community events and engaging in community outreach efforts.
Success will be defined by:
The number of advocates who take action to support Opportunity Arizona’s goals
following contact with the Organizer.
The number of advocates who become advocate leaders with larger organizational
roles and responsibilities.
The variety and depth of engagement with Opportunity Arizona’s work from relevant
constituencies that the Organizer contacts.
The number of stories collected from stakeholders and validators about Opportunity
Arizona’s issue priorities.
The number of events hosted, the quality of the events, and the quantity of event
attendees.
The number of issue supporters converted to advocates who will record their story,
take action, and give their testimonial on a bill/issue.
Additional details:
This is a full-time position. This position is grant-based until the end of May 2027, and may be
extended upon organizational evaluation. Work on evenings and weekends will be required.
Paid Time Off is earned for every hour worked over 40 hours a week. The position is in person.
In-state travel will be necessary. Previous organizing experience (at least one year or one
election cycle) is required. Compensation will be $53,000 to $61,300 annually, contingent on
experience. Benefits include:
