Founded in 1993, Multifamily NW is the leading trade organization for rental housing professionals across Oregon and Southwest Washington. Its member companies, including property managers, owners, investors, and industry service providers, represent more than 300,000 rental units. Multifamily NW advocates on behalf of the rental housing industry, delivers professional education and comprehensively reviewed rental forms, and connects members through events and networking.
Position Summary
The Marketing and Communications Manager leads the strategy and execution of external communications and marketing initiatives supporting membership growth, education programs, events, sponsorship engagement, and advocacy efforts.
This role serves as the steward of the association’s voice, ensuring consistent, accurate, and member-focused messaging across all channels. The position also plays a critical role in advocacy communications by supporting legislative priorities through press releases, government correspondence, member alerts, and public-facing messaging.
The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on, thrives in a fast-paced, event-driven environment, and can translate complex issues into clear and compelling communications.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing Strategy and Brand Management
- Develop and execute annual marketing and communications plans aligned with organizational priorities.
- Maintain brand standards, messaging frameworks, and visual identity.
- Ensure a consistent voice, tone, and position across communications.
Content Development and Communications
- Write, edit, and manage email campaigns, newsletters, website updates, social media, print materials, and reports.
- Serve as lead editor for clarity, accuracy, professionalism, and accessibility.
- Support internal communications to staff, committees, and board leadership.
Advocacy and Government Affairs Communications
- Draft legislative alerts, calls to action, press releases, policy updates, and advocacy communications.
- Prepare letters and correspondence for elected officials, government agencies, and regulatory bodies.
- Support communications involving legislative sessions, ballot measures, regulatory changes, and advocacy campaigns.
- Ensure communications align with approved organizational policy positions.
Events and Program Marketing
- Develop marketing campaigns for education programs, networking events, conferences, and fundraisers.
- Create promotional timelines, email sequences, and digital assets in collaboration with program and event staff.
Membership and Sponsorship Promotion
- Support membership recruitment, retention, and engagement through targeted campaigns.
- Create sponsor materials, recognition assets, and post-event content.
Digital Platforms and Analytics
- Manage website content, email marketing platforms, and social media channels.
- Track email engagement, website traffic, registrations, and campaign performance.
- Use performance data to improve future communications.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with advocacy, education, events, sponsorship, membership, and operations staff to align messaging and priorities.
Requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Four to seven years of marketing and communications experience.
- Experience in an association, nonprofit, public affairs, or advocacy-driven organization preferred.
- Strong professional writing and editing skills.
- Experience with policy-oriented or advocacy communications.
- Experience with email marketing platforms, website content-management systems, social media, and basic analytics.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a calendar-driven organization.
- Association or government affairs experience strongly preferred.
