- HLA Supervisor
Description
The Supervisor of HLA Laboratories supports the mission, goals and strategic plan of Nevada Donor Network, Inc. (NDN) by providing oversight of daily laboratory operations, overseeing new test development and implementation, technologist training and participating in the daily performance, analysis and reporting of clinical laboratory testing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Supervises and participates in the day-to-day performance, analysis and reporting of HLA testing.
Identifies and assists in resolving operational and technical problems in HLA Lab Evaluates and makes recommendations for new equipment, supplies and reagents and implements their application.
Works with the Director to develop protocols for technical training and evaluation of competency for testing personnel.
Heads special projects as assigned.
Assists in the writing and updating of the technical procedure manual and QC procedures in HLA Lab.
Works with the HLA Director and HLA Technologist III – HLA Technical Specialist to evaluate and select new tests and test procedures, performs validation studies, and analyzes data for validation and quality control (QC)/quality assurance (QA) procedures.
Works with HLA Technologist III updating QC/QA records and forms and to ensure laboratory maintains compliance with UNOS, CLIA, CAP, State of Nevada and other applicable standards/regulations.
Routinely oversees preparation and quality control of reagents, kits, etc.
Performs HLA specimen processing as needed.
Evaluates a given patient’s immunologic and serologic history, determines appropriate battery of tests, recommends additional testing if necessary, advises physicians regarding selection of optimum recipient/donor pairs during periods of “call-back” without supervision.
Communicates results and interpretations with the UMC nephrologists and surgeons for a variety of tests.
Analyzes results, facilitates patient chart review and creates reports.
Participates in on-call technologist rotation as needed.
Participates and assists in coordinating proficiency testing exercises.
Serves as the department AOC as needed.
Performs direct report performance evaluations and other personnel related tasks (e.g., PIPs and tracking performance).
Participates in HLA Strategic Planning process.
Makes recommendations for process improvements, and facilitates Plan do Study Act (PDSA).
Performs mock inspections of various laboratory areas.
Performs other related duties as required/requested.
Employees must adhere to and remain in full compliance with Nevada Donor Network’s Motor Vehicle Driving Policy as outlined in the Motor Vehicle Records and Driver Safety policy PC.334.
Requirements
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or university) in laboratory science.
Experience: Six (6) years full-time laboratory experience including at least five (5) years HLA experience.
Previous leadership experience preferred.
Computer Skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required. Knowledge of relevant medical terminology is preferred. Experience with database applications preferred.
Certificates & Licenses: Nevada General Supervisor License required (can be obtained post offer); Certified Histocompatibility Specialist (CHS) certification required; MLS/MT certification preferred.
Other Requirements: Meets current state, federal and other regulatory agency (American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI)) educational/experience requirements. Required to have a personal cell phone. Occasionally required to travel by personal auto to meet all of the duties and responsibilities of the position.
