Company Profile

The Story School

Company Overview

The Story School is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to turning kids into heroes. It is a perfect place for campers who love live-action role-play (LARP)! Located in the beautiful woods on Prindle Pond in Charlton, Massachusetts, campers are immersed in an interactive fantasy world where anyone and everyone can be a hero.

The Story School prides itself on using curiosity-based learning practices to teach critical STEAM skills. This curiosity inspires campers to creatively utilize what they have learned to solve challenges and level-up their characters. Campers will explore our world of magic, history, and monsters by day and as the sun sets, enjoy getting to know friends over games, crafts, and dorm activities.

Families that have participated in The Story School know their camper will feel safe, expand their STEAM and interpersonal skills, and return a more confident and empowered version of themselves. The Story School is inclusive of all campers and proud to serve a large number of neuro-diverse and LGBTQ+ students.

Company History

In 2013, The Story School was founded as a non-profit organization by team behind Guard Up's Wizards & Warriors Camp. Story School took over the operation of the overnight camps. In December of 2020, The Story School became it's own individual organization separating from Guard Up and standing on its own. Log time camp director, Christopher Wiley, stepped in as the Executive Director to oversee and has been running the organization ever since. Navigating a fully virtual summer in 2020, a hybrid summer in 2021, and a triumphant return to full in-person operations in 2022, the staff of The Story School is excited to see what the future holds as we return to full operation.

The Story School's priority is to make academic learning engaging and retentive for campers by creating a curiosity-based program for all types of learners. Our passion for immersive role play and the fantasy world comes through in the programming and mission of the organization. We are now motivated to grow the summer camp program, and eventually, build year-round programs with scholarships available to all students everywhere. We have a passion for helping students find their inner hero and their community of like-minded friends.

All of us at The Story School can't wait for you to join our adventure!
