What is the role?
The Business Development Director develops and fosters relationships with utility decision-makers and influencers to drive revenue growth. Through strategic collaboration with the business development team, this role creates and executes a multi-year sales plan to engage utilities and promote our Programs and Research & Evaluation business lines. Success is measured by achieving annual growth goals and strengthening Michaels’ presence as a trusted partner in the energy industry. A successful candidate will thrive at relationship-building and align with our brand and company values.
Business Development
Executive business development plans for each business line
Build strong relationships with utility decision makers who buy DSM services and connect their unique needs to our services
Network with stakeholders, policy makers, and influencers in the industry
Keep abreast of market changes (state and utility-level) to identify new opportunities for Michaels
Actively engage in industry associations, committees, stakeholder meetings, and regulatory proceedings within targeted states
Conduct capability presentations with potential clients and partners
Attend and represent Michaels Energy at industry conferences and events
Provide thought leadership through webinars, blogs, and/or speaking opportunities
Support and Reporting
Meet regularly with internal teams to share prospect, partner, and market intel
Represent the client’s voice in the proposal process by providing intel and content – as needed – to help craft a compelling, winning story
Assist proposal team in identifying strategic partners, as needed
Ensure the proposal team receives all RFPs from targeted utility and government entities
Record sales activities and intel through HubSpot
Provide monthly reporting on KPIs

Requirements
What are we looking for?
Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field
MBA is preferred
5 to 8 years of sales experience in energy efficiency or load management industries
Existing industry connections
Proven track record of closing large deals
Ability to travel up to 50% to conferences, industry events, and client meetings
Where can you work?
Remotely in any U.S. location or any of the Michaels Energy office locations: La Crosse WI, Minneapolis, MN, Cedar Rapids, IA, Denver, CO, Chicago, IL, and Richmond, VA.
Pay Range
$130,000 - $150,000 + regional adjustment if applicable
Performance-based commission
