Description

This professional financial aid counseling position serves a frontline role within Student Financial Services specializing in Financial Aid and Student Accounts functions. S/he advises prospective students, current students, and other stakeholders on institutional policies and procedures; financial aid application and packaging information; student account balances and payment methods, in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)as well as the US Department of Education regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Promotes exceptional customer service to prospective students, current students, and colleagues, including the timely, accurate, and professional response to all phone, email, and in-person inquiries.
• Serves as primary responder to all emailed questions and inquiries submitted to the Departmental email account.
• Serves as primary responder to all general phone calls and voicemail messages made to the Departmental phone number.
• Facilitates the financial aid application processes and the awarding of institutional scholarships, federal loans, and institutional loans.
• Educates prospective and current students of the financial aid application submission process, including technical support of the FASFA and CSS Profile systems.
• Manages the incomplete financial aid application inventory and provide outreach and support to students with difficulties completing the process.
• Maintains all financial aid application documentation with the Empower Student Information System.
• Preserves confidentiality of all student financial, academic, and personal information in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), US Department of Education, and institutional policies and procedures.
• Manages the creation and maintenance of all data collection forms.
• Processes student account payments.
• Executes financial hold releases from student accounts.
• Initiates the student account refund processes within the student information system and the Mount Sinai Health System financial systems.
• Other duties as assigned.



Requirements

Qualifications - Internal

  • Bachelor’s degree required
    • One year of previous financial aid experience required
    • Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills
    • Ability to provide high quality service and handle multiple priorities with confidence and poise in a fast-paced environment
    • Strong written and oral communication skills
    • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
    • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
    • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
    • Strong computer skills, including MS Office as well as student information systems, CPS, NSLDS, and all other financial systems required
    • The ability and willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to accommodate the activities related to job responsibilities
