Job Description
Duff & Phelps Investment Management – Institutional Sales Associate
At Duff & Phelps Investment Management (D&P), collaboration is not a value statement; it is how the firm operates every day. As a boutique, investment led manager specializing in listed real assets, D&P is built on close partnership across investment, client portfolio management, marketing, and distribution teams, with a shared focus on building durable relationships with sophisticated institutional investors and consultants.
The Institutional Sales Associate role plays an essential role in the asset gathering process. Based in Chicago, this position is designed for an early to midcareer professional who wants to be fully embedded in the institutional business development effort—working side-by-side with senior sales leaders, Client Portfolio Managers, and marketing partners to support how D&P’s strategies are positioned, communicated, and grown across institutional channels.
Designed for professionals with approximately 3–5 years of experience within asset management, investment consulting, or a related institutional environment, the Institutional Sales Associate role offers meaningful exposure, increasing responsibility, and visibility within the organization. FINRA Series 7, 63, 65 (66) Licenses, or commitment to obtain it within 6 months is preferred. You will support new business development, consultant engagement, and client growth initiatives across the full lifecycle of institutional relationships. Preparation, accuracy, and follow-through are table stakes; teamwork, curiosity, and accountability are what distinguish success in the role.
A Culture Built on Teamwork and Proximity
The Institutional Sales Associate operates within D&P’s highly collaborative, Chicago centric culture, where proximity to colleagues and active participation in discussions matter. Institutional sales at D&P is not a transactional function; it is a team-based effort built on preparation, credibility, and long-term thinking. Associates are expected to work closely with senior sales professionals, Client Portfolio Managers, and internal partners to ensure engagements are thoughtful, coordinated, and aligned with how strategies are actually managed.
You will collaborate across teams to prepare for client and consultant meetings, support outreach and follow-up, and ensure materials and messaging reflect D&P’s investment philosophy and portfolio positioning. This partnership driven approach mirrors D&P’s broader operating model, where roles are defined less by title and more by shared responsibility for outcomes.
Partnership Across the Commercial Organization
In addition to the day-to-day sales support, the Institutional Sales Associate will contribute to broader commercial initiatives, including consultant tracking, opportunity identification, CRM management, and competitive analysis. Responsibilities include supporting RFPs and DDQs, coordinating meetings and roadshows, developing presentation materials, monitoring industry and consultant activity, and partnering with marketing and investment teams to ensure consistent and accurate positioning.
Through this work, the Institutional Sales Associate develops a deep, practical understanding of D&P’s investment strategies, client segments, and institutional distribution model. This role provides insight into how institutional capital is raised and retained, and how collaboration across sales, marketing, and investment teams drives longterm growth.
Who Thrives at D&P
This role is well-suited for a professional who values teamwork, preparation, and being close to the business. Successful Institutional Sales Associates are those who take pride in supporting others, enjoy working across functions, and want to build credibility over time within a boutique investment platform where individual contributions are visible and meaningful.
Why D&P
Professionals join Duff & Phelps Investment Management Co. because they want the depth and credibility of a true investment platform, combined with the collaboration and accessibility that comes with a boutique firm. Here, institutional sales is a shared endeavor, relationships are built on trust and substance, and success is driven by teams working together to support disciplined, long-term client growth.
Base salary range is $100,000 to $120,000/annually.
The starting salary offer will vary based on the applicant’s education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, internal equity, and alignment with market data. This position is also eligible to participate in the annual incentive plan.
This position requires U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency (Green Card holder) as a condition of employment. We are unable to sponsor work visas or provide support for OPT/CPT programs for this role.
Virtus and its affiliates is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
