About us

The Seven Steps is the largest literacy company in Australia.  Our mission is to transform students writing.  We’re in an exciting period of transition and growth, which is why we need you!

At Seven Steps we:

  • Train teachers in the Seven Steps to Writing Success - a highly regarded and extremely successful writing program taught in Australian schools. 
  • Deliver training to over 6,000 teachers a year in our live, face-to-face and online workshops. 
  • Provide ongoing teaching support to almost 20,000 teachers via our online subscription platform, and sell award-winning teaching manuals.

About the Role

We are in a massive transition period: in October we’re launching a huge rebrand, new website, new online subscription platform and new CRM, we’ve just moved into our swish brand-new offices in Sandringham and over the past 18 months during lockdown disruption, we developed and released an entire online workshop suite that opens up our market reach.   Phew, it’s been busy!

We’re now ready to grow! 

We need an experienced Marketing Manager to join our passionate team to drive and expand our market share in Australia… as well as explore and launch into overseas markets.

Key Focus

  • Developing and executing the marketing strategy 
  • Growing the Seven Steps brand, both in Australia and overseas
  • Identifying new markets and marketing opportunities/partnerships
  • Managing our fabulous Marketing Team of three, developing team members to grow in the company
  • Assessing and reporting on marketing ROI and making data-driven decisions 
  • Driving continuous improvement and innovation

Key Skills and Experience

  • An experienced marketing professional with a great track record of building a brand and engaging an audience with a results-focused approach
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in digital marketing 
  • A proactive people leader with experience leading and building high performing teams
  • An excellent communicator - we’re a writing company, so we need a great writer - clear, engaging and inspiring
  • Someone who cares about education and feels energised by the idea of making a difference in Australian schools.

Requirements

Marketing strategy, planning and implementation

  • Develop and oversee execution of the Seven Steps marketing strategy
  • Lead the development, planning and delivery of Seven Steps marketing activity, including digital and traditional (conferences, press, collateral, etc) marketing
  • Review all marketing content, ensuring it’s engaging, high quality and on brand
  • Research and develop insights into our customers - analysing the customer journey across our product range.
  • Ensure we stay on track to deliver all marketing on time and to a high quality

 Identify new market and marketing opportunities

  • Identify new target markets and marketing opportunities to grow the Seven Steps
  • Research and explore international markets
    • Short-term goal of a soft launch in New Zealand in 2022
    • Long-term we aim to expand into other international markets
  • Identify new partnership opportunities in Australian education
  • Identify and contribute to tenders, when they arise
  • Identify potential speaking opportunities
  • Regularly research competitors and innovation in the education and training space to help contribute to both marketing and new product development.

 Brand management

  • Manage the brand strategy
  • Be the proponent for our brand voice and identity, working to build up awareness and ensure consistency. Be the ‘brand champion’
  • Ensure brand guidelines are followed wherever our brand is used
  • Work with the Culture team to integrate the brand traits (Inspiring, Trusted, Belonging, Growth) into the team, where possible.

Team management

  • Manage the Marketing Team
  • Support your team to be successful in their roles, ensuring open communication, two-way feedback and regular meetings
  • Coach and develop your team to grow in their roles and their careers
  • Ensure our company values of collaboration, inspiration, trust, belonging and growth are fostered
  • Drive improvements to our Marketing processes and logistics
  • Plan and manage the Marketing Budget.

Data insights

  • Guide the team on best practice marketing metrics
  • Gather, review and analyse data to gain insights on the success of our marketing
  • Develop and share insights via regular reporting within marketing and to the wider team
  • Use these insights to make informed decisions, improve what we do and develop new approaches.
