Role: Iowa Rapid Response Organizer, Planned Parenthood

Location and Timeline: We are hiring an organizer for this position beginning April 15, lasting through mid- to early June, with the possibility of extending through July 4 at the latest. Organizers should be based or able to travel daily to Davenport, IA.

General Overview:

The Rapid Response Organizer will work in close coordination with the Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s national campaigns team and IA state team to build grassroots power in their congressional district. Organizers will develop and execute a rigorous campaign plan that integrates volunteer recruitment, canvassing, rapid response event organizing, coalition building, and digital engagement – all aimed at mobilizing constituents to take action to defend and protect Planned Parenthood. Organizers will be expected to lead from the front by canvassing themselves, moving volunteers through the leadership pipeline, and hitting the ground.  

What You’ll Do: 

• Recruit and Train a Community of Volunteer Activists
• Call and text supporters and recruit them into grassroots actions.
• Run grassroots skills trainings to develop effective campaigners among volunteers
• Keep meticulous track of a volunteer list so that no potential volunteer falls through the cracks
• Hold regularly scheduled canvasses to identify supporters and immediately follow up with potential volunteers identified in the community and at the door
• Organize Events around reproductive rights
• Nail 100% of all messaging and legal requirements and ensure that volunteers do the same
• Organize and execute in-person events, including educational events, trainings, rallies, phone banks, and a final large-scale, district-wide mobilization event
• Build Coalition and Develop Grassroots Relationships
• Represent the campaign through participation in community spaces and events, while engaging and uplifting coalition and partner organizations.
• Engage with organizing partners in-district to elevate the fight to protect Planned Parenthood funding
• Develop contacts with local elected officials, community leaders, and advocacy organizations
• Manage Digital Campaign, Data Management, and Reporting Tools
• Demonstrate public support by recruiting volunteers to post on their own social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
• Use peer-to-peer texting services and relational organizing tools to communicate with community members
• Send timely and compelling email campaigns to recruit activists to campaign activities
• Track every interaction with detailed notes in order to report numbers daily and write weekly reports on the results of the campaign

Nice-to-Haves, but Not Required:

• Experience working for nonprofits, electoral campaigns, and/or other issue campaigns
• Data Management and Evaluation Experience: Experience working with various data management systems and tools, mainly Google Suite.
• Experience with Relevant Campaign Tools and Technologies: Action Network, ThruText, MailChimp, eCRMs like EveryAction, or social media tools (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram).
• Event or Project Planning & Management, Implementation or Evaluation
• Knowledge or previous experience working on this issue is a plus, but not required

If you were here right now, you would be:

• Engaging and expanding awareness of reproductive rights access and threats within the state and specifically within the state legislature through public visibility actions, voter outreach, and relationship building
• Planning and coordinating with coalition partners around the legislative session and preventing the constitutional amendment passage
• Recruiting, training and developing volunteers to prepare for rapid response including preparing volunteers to make calls, plan events, write letters etc.

Salary, Benefits and Perks:

The salary for this position is $68,640 annually.  Salary is determined through an equity calculator. As part of The Outreach Team’s commitment to compensation equity and transparency, we have a no negotiation policy. Salary negotiations can introduce bias and perpetuate wage inequality. At the end of the campaign, there may be opportunities for advancement.  We do offer a monthly cell phone stipend of $50.
