Marketing and Communications Director

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

The Communications and Marketing manager will be a proactive leader in the organization responsible for all of the Alliance for the Arts' internal and external communication, media relations, and marketing strategy. Responsibilities include strategic communications design and execution. This position will support the creation, development and implementation of a multi-year plan that is focused on promoting the arts in Lee County, help to establish its regional presence, and delivering marketing & communications value to identified corporate partners.

The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for:

  • The development, implementation, and ongoing assessment (with metrics) of a comprehensive, integrated strategic communications function that will leverage new and traditional media (as well as emerging channels) and public relations to elevate the profile of AFTA as the regional arts organization.
  • In partnership with staff, developing a cohesive, marketing strategy to significantly increase audience share regionally, decision-making groups such as potential funders, community-based organizations, government leaders, and the general public.
  • Building and maintaining strong media relationships to improve the breadth and depth of media coverage about the work and impact of AFTA
  • Working in collaboration with others, identifying new and innovative opportunities to showcase the work and leadership of AFTA, the artistic community, programming and partners.
  • Serving as a thought-partner to the Executive Director to strategically position the organization's vision and mission
  • Providing guidance to program teams and executive leadership to frame issues and communicate more effectively
  • Create marketing content for email outreach, fundraising campaigns, weekly newsletters, season program and in-person events
  • Partnering with Development to meet funder stewardship and cultivation deliverables
  • Partnering with Education to effectively communicate program milestones and highlight classes, positioning AFTA to influence a broader audience of those interested in access, equity and education surrounding the arts.
  • Building and managing an editorial calendar that encompasses short-form and long-form content across all AFTA programs and channels
  • Overseeing the day-to-day activities of the communications function, including budgeting, budget management, planning, department administration, and staff development; managing the use of consultants as needed
  • Ensuring the quality and professionalism of all of AFTA’’s communications collateral
  • Management of social media manager and graphic designers
  • Draft, edit, and distribute letters, web posts/stories, statements, media advisories, press releases, brochures, and other materials to families, students, staff, community partners, and the media
  • Respond to media inquiries and assist media in promoting district policies, programs, and special events; consult with appropriate staff to coordinate and supervise the dissemination of information through the media
  • Maintain and update media contacts and relevant town and public group distribution lists
  • Oversee and review communications software applications that facilitate internal communications, customer service, and operational effectiveness on an ongoing basis.
  • Establish a visual assets library for the communications department
  • Proofread and revise materials for public dissemination
  • Prepare and present reports on a variety of issues

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $48,000.00 - $57,000.00 per year



Requirements

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Proactive and entrepreneurial; you have passion, and drive, and are not afraid to take risks; you thrive in a collaborative, dynamic growth environment.
  • Multi-tasker and proactive prioritizer; you are happiest when working on many things at once, yet are able to sort through the important from the unimportant.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, and related fields or relevant experience; 
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in communications
  • Graphic design proficiency (Canva/ In-Design)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of internal/external communications content and strategy, crisis communications, media/public relations, marketing strategy, brand management, event planning, digital marketing, and print materials
  • Highly proficient and productive writing skills required
  • Bilingual in Spanish (desired)
  • Highly flexible and adaptive work style with the ability to work irregular hours and prioritize among competing demands
  • Ability to meet deadlines, take initiative, and make sound decisions under pressure
  • Must be computer proficient with Microsoft and Google office suites
  • Experience/knowledge in social media and digital communications best practices
