General Description / Primary Purpose


The Coordinator of Instructional Support, under the direction of an Assistant Director or above, assists in the design, development and implementation of departmental processes and/or programs. Recommends policies and procedures to ensure effective coordination of departmental programs.

Essential Duties



Job Function


This position requires a positive, self-motivated person with excellent interpersonal communication skills, eager to work in an environment that requires strong emphasis on providing superior support to faculty, students, staff, and community members conforming to the University's mission and values. The Writing Program & Center is an integral part of the Department of English and is measured by its ability to support students, faculty, staff, and community members meet their individual needs. To this end, the Coordinator of Instructional Support will often be required to demonstrate a caring and patient attitude, call on conflict resolution skills, and ensure that every effort is made to supply students with quality academic assistance. The professional occupying this position will perform the following duties:

-Develop WPC materials and policies, in conjunction with WP Director, for part- and full-time faculty, to include the maintenance of a online-accessible repository for materials.
-Contribute to the development, delivery, and assessment of selected student retention efforts.
-Actively participate in the program's goals and direction of the WPC office and positively work towards achieving those goals, to include interdisciplinary efforts including the Quality Enhancement Plan, IDS course development, and First Year Experience, among others.
-Coordinate with other student and faculty support offices to develop and offer cooperative initiatives. These may include Student Academic Success Services ( SASS ), Peer-Assisted Student Success ( PASS ), Office of Faculty Enhancement ( OFE ), Office of Undergraduate Research ( OUR ), Student Accessibility Services ( SAS ), Advising, and Career Services, as well as external partners and stakeholders.
-Collaborate with Writing Center Support Coordinator to develop print and digital materials for Writing Center use as well as any Learning Management System distribution.
-Design and facilitate professional development, onboarding, and instructional support for faculty, students, and staff and support interdisciplinary initiatives as part of that assignment.
-Develop and facilitate workshops and events to provide additional support for curriculum for students as well as for non-academic needs.
-Offer writing consultations and provide individual instruction, which may include reviewing class materials with students, discussing and practicing student study skills, motivating and building student confidence, and assessing and documenting their progress throughout consultations, to include researching and preparing consultation plans for sessions according to each student's needs.
-Participate in training and development sessions to improve writing consultation practices.
-Use digital technologies to organize, track, and assess consultant and visitor activities and programming.
-Work within established budgets.

Required Qualifications


A Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related area of specialization; or a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university and two years of experience directly related to the job functions.

- Possess diplomatic skills and sensitivity to faculty needs
