Description
We’re seeking a hands-on, working supervisor who leads by example while staying actively engaged in the field. This role provides direct supervision and guidance to a team of six Inspectors while also carrying a full workload of field inspection responsibilities, balancing leadership, collaboration, and day-to-day operational excellence.
What You’ll Do
Lead, support, and supervise a team of six Inspectors performing inspections of one- and two-family dwellings.
Conduct hands-on field inspections of residential properties, including driving a City vehicle as part of daily duties.
Provide effective leadership by conducting performance evaluations and making informed recommendations regarding hiring, promotions, transfers, and corrective actions.
Collaborate with the Building Official, Deputy Building Official, and internal stakeholders to improve code enforcement processes and service delivery.
Participate in section planning and develop budgetary recommendations in coordination with department and City leadership.
Represent the Growth Management Department at trade and neighborhood organization meetings to support education, outreach, and community engagement.
Requirements
Minimum Training & Experience
High School diploma or GED
Ten (10) years of experience in work involving residential, industrial or commercial inspection, construction supervision, or design
Three (3) years of supervisory experience in residential, industrial or commercial inspection, construction supervision, or design
Necessary Special Requirements
Must meet one of the following at the time of appointment:
Contractor registered with the State of Florida, meeting competency requirements
Contractor certified by the State of Florida
Architect or Engineer registered with the State of Florida
Standard Building, Residential Electrical, Plumbing, or Mechanical Inspector license issued by the State of Florida
Eligible for a Provisional Building, Residential Electrical, Plumbing, or Mechanical Inspector license issued by the State of Florida
Individuals without a Standard Inspector license must obtain within one year of appointment:
Standard Building, Residential Electrical, Plumbing, or Mechanical Inspector license
Standard Building, Residential Electrical, Plumbing, or Mechanical Plans Examiner license
Standard One- and Two-Family Inspector and Building Code Administrator license
All other employees must obtain within one year of appointment:
Standard Building, Residential Electrical, Plumbing, or Mechanical Plans Examiner license
Standard One- and Two-Family Inspector and Building Code Administrator license
Must possess a valid Class E State driver’s license
