City of Kentwood – Parks & Recreation Department

The City of Kentwood Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a professional, detail-focused Rental Coordinator to oversee the day-to-day operations of our indoor and outdoor rental spaces.
From community rooms and shelters to athletic fields and event venues, you’ll ensure our renters receive outstanding service, facilities are well-maintained, and every rental event is executed with excellence.
What You’ll Do
As the Rental Coordinator, you’ll play a key role in creating smooth, positive rental experiences for residents, organizations, and community partners. You will:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for renters, providing clear communication, guidance, and timely issue resolution.
- Meet with clients to review policies, logistics, and expectations prior to their rental date.
- Ensure enforcement of rental agreements, safety guidelines, and operational standards.
- Oversee the booking, setup, and maintenance of rental facilities in partnership with the Rental Supervisor.
- Coordinate with maintenance and operations staff to ensure facilities remain clean, safe, and event-ready.
- Manage event logistics including scheduling, vendor coordination, staff coverage, and room setup/breakdown.
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate rental staff.
- Assist rental staff during setup and cleanup when needed.
- Maintain accurate records, inventory, and reports related to rental operations.
- Support a positive, collaborative, customer-focused workplace.
- Every rental you oversee helps create connections and special memories for individuals, families, and community groups across Kentwood.
About You
You’re a strong communicator and problem-solver with excellent customer service instincts. You can manage multiple priorities, stay calm under pressure, and lead staff with confidence and professionalism.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in recreation management, hospitality management, business administration, or a related field
- Three (3) years of experience coordinating corporate events, weddings, conferences, social events, or sporting events
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Valid Michigan Driver’s License
- CPR, AED & First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
- Ability to obtain ServSafe Alcohol and Michigan TIPS certifications within 6 months

Pay & Benefits
- Hourly pay range: $25.99–$33.20, depending on experience
- 10% employer retirement contribution — well above industry average
- Up to 4 weeks vacation, 12 sick days, 11 holidays, and 3 personal days annually
