GENERAL STATEMENT: The Recreation Services Coordinator is responsible for the Avon Recreation
Center Front Desk operations and personnel. This position is responsible for the daily operations of the front
desk which include customer relations, pass and daily admissions sales, retail sales, activity registrations,
and other monetary transactions. This position is responsible for the organization of information on
Recreation Department programs and the dissemination of this information to staff.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the direct supervision of the Recreation Services Supervisor.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Oversees and directs the work of the Guest Services Attendants.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work performed is primarily in an office environment, involving both sitting and
standing for long periods, frequent interruptions. Work may also be performed outside in all weather
conditions at the Harry A. Nottingham Park Ice Rink. Repetitive motion for typing and reaching with hands
and arms. Also includes talking or hearing and standing and walking. Must be able to lift and/or move objects
up to 15 pounds, and at times, objects weighing upwards of 35 pounds. Occasionally requires stooping,
kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Ensures visitors to the Avon Recreation Center are greeted and served in a positive, professional
manner, and are provided correct information regarding programs, memberships, and facilities
2. Recruits, partakes in hiring process, and trains Guest Service I & II staff members
3. Requests and orders approved supplies and equipment for front desk/fitness operations and ensures
their proper maintenance
4. Ensures front desk and fitness area remain clean and safe for staff and patrons
5. Collects fees and processes passes for Avon Recreation Center patrons, registers participants for
classes, programs, leagues, and special events
6. Assists in account reconciliation, refunds, transfers, and reports with SmartRec software
7. Assists in pinpointing problems and implementing solutions in SmartRec software
8. Processes, calculates, and balances daily revenues and cash drawers within $20.00
9. Prepares daily sales for bank deposits and ensures proper security measures of handling bank
deposits and daily reports for sales and registrations to the Finance Department
10. Recommends and implements Front Desk policy and procedures
11. Ensures safety of patrons in the facility and assists in emergency situations
12. Responsible for maintaining the department phone system
13. Assists in development, publications, and distribution of the Avon Recreation Center brochure and
advertisements
14. Provides assistance to the Director in the development of short- and long-range plans; gathers, interprets,
and prepares data for studies, reports and recommendations; coordinates department activities with
other departments and agencies as needed
Other Duties and Functions:
1. Follows up with patron special requests when needed
2. Acts as Manager on Duty (MOD) when necessary
3. Demonstrates consistent, fair, and equal treatment, enforcing rules politely and with a positive attitude
4. Provide coverage in Recreation Department Youth and Adult Programs when necessary
5. Attends and produces In-Service trainings/meetings once a month
Requirements
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Considerable knowledge of recreation, sports, physical fitness, and leisure activities
2. Considerable knowledge of necessary safety requirements and procedures for a safe working
environment
3. Work hours will mostly consist of mid-day to late evening shifts, but may also include early mornings,
weekends, and holidays
4. Knowledge of Town of Avon Recreation Center rules, policies, standards, and mission statement
5. Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures and ability to interact with the public in a
professional and positive manner
6. Knowledge of POS terminal, cash handling and navigating SmartRec software (i.e. refunds, account
reconciliations, activity transfers, and applying/generating household credits)
7. Ability to supervise employees according to established policies and procedures, in a positive and
professional manner
8. Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
9. Ability to become CPR/AED/First Aid certified within 30 days of hire
10. Ability to be youth programs certified within three (3) months of hire
11. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Publisher, Excel, and Outlook) and ability to operate basic
office equipment including a computer, fax, telephone, etc.
12. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
13. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
14. Ability to communicate in English effectively both verbally and in writing; Spanish is considered a plus
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Recreation is preferred with
extensive experience in customer service and five (5) years of progressive relatable job experience or any
equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence of the reqiured knowledge, skills
and abiltities.
