About You
Commitment to JRPC values and mission.
Interest in, knowledge of, and willingness to learn about ethical business models (fair trade, locally made, upcycled, sustainable, etc.).
Excellent communication, teamwork, and customer service skills.
Friendly and willing to have dialogues with store shoppers & JRPC members.
Retail/customer service experience is desired, but we are willing to train the right person.
Awareness, understanding, and willingness to learn about various social movements.
Basic computer skills required.
A creative eye for store display and design.
Reporting Relationship
This position will report directly to the Executive Director for day-to-day operations and will also work with the Fair Trade Merchandiser and Buyer on store-related tasks.
Outreach & Event Responsibilities
Operations & Administrative Management
Respond to emails, mail, and phone calls.
Oversee cleanliness and organization of files, database, and physical space.
Support the Executive Director with events, development, and outreach.
Attend weekly staff meetings.
Cover store shifts when needed
Membership Management
Maintain JRPC’s membership database (check processing, routing slips, receipts, renewals).
Collaborate with the Executive Director on membership drives and renewals.
Encourage growth through membership outreach.
Handle member correspondence.
Generate membership-related reports (e.g., thank-you phone call lists).
Communications & Outreach
Manage social media accounts.
Work on social media, newsletter updates, and promotions for the store and center.
Assist with direct mailings and outreach materials.
Programs & Events
Represent JRPC at program and community partner events.
Serve on the Peace Party Planning Committee and assist with marketing, ticketing, and silent auction logistics.
Support the Executive Director with project and program management.
Assist in planning and executing fundraisers and events.
Physical Requirements
Requires presence in the center for 20-24 hours per week.
Light lifting, some standing and walking, extensive computer use, and phone interaction.
Fair Trade Store Responsibilities
Support the Mission of JRPC
Keep informed about JRPC activities via participation in committees and communication with the Executive Director.
Encourage growth through membership and outreach to store visitors.
Support other JRPC programs and initiatives.
Education and Outreach
Promote fair trade and alternative retail.
Maintain educational materials in the store about fair trade and product stories.
Create and implement a "Top 10 Products Training Guide" quarterly, featuring product origins, producer stories, and social impact information.
Update and create “Dig Deeper” educational QR codes for customers about countries and vendors.
Share training materials with staff and volunteers at quarterly store meetings.
Ensure staff and volunteers are comfortable discussing fair trade and shop products, including Pride and gender-inclusive merchandise.
Plan and execute tabling events within the Missoula community.
Member & Customer Service
Operate the retail register.
Answer customer inquiries and assist with store navigation.
Answer phone calls.
Greet and support customers and members.
Check membership status.
General Store Operations
Stay informed about the narratives of product makers and merchandise stories.
Maintain a clean, organized retail space.
Keep inventory stocked at appropriate levels, ensuring best sellers are available.
Assist with pricing, display inventory, and store updates.
Set up monthly check-ins with Nicole and Jenny to discuss inventory, display needs, and upcoming promotions.
Manage backend (Square) inventory data entry and maintenance.
Manage supplies such as tissue and bags, coordinating purchases with the Executive Director.
Physical Requirements
Requires presence in the store for 16-20 hours per week.
Light lifting, some standing and walking, use of a keypad for Square, and phone usage.
