Description
Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) strives to increase the number of students who enter and succeed in postsecondary education.
Under the supervision of an assigned GEAR UP Coordinator, the Media and Marketing Assistant will support in developing innovative digital and print content, with a focus on promoting and increasing awareness of the mission and objectives of GEAR UP to target audiences and stakeholders. The Media and Marketing Assistant must be a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual looking to gain experience in the field of digital marketing and content creation. Based on program needs as determined by the GEAR UP Director, this position may be required to work out of various locations, including the CSUF campus, GEAR UP target schools, or other locations. Media and Marketing Assistants may be expected to perform duties including those outlined below:
*Please be aware that funding for this position is awarded through a Grant/Contract over a specified period. Employment for this position beyond current Grant/Contract funding is contingent upon continued funding or new Grant/Contract.
Essential Duties
- Assist in brainstorming and creating timely and effective content for print and digital advertising, posters, banners, flyers, website, social media, and other promotional materials
- Engage with program participants and community partners via social media and in person while ensuring that brand messaging is consistent across internal and external GEAR UP communications
- Review and update content for GEAR UP social media
- Assist with capturing and producing photo/video content related to GEAR UP events and programming
- Research and share strategies to improve current practices
- Report to supervisor periodically about the status of assigned projects
- Attend staff meetings and staff development sessions
- Perform general clerical responsibilities including but not limited to accurate record keeping, filing, data entry of sensitive information, inventory management, and budget support
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Ability to commit to a full school-year position
- Ability to work with minimum supervision, both independently and with others
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective time management skills
- Ability to work effectively with various members of professional academic communities
- Ability to clearly relay information.
- Possess excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrate sound decision-making skills
- Demonstrate ability to react flexibly to new situations
- Working knowledge of digital marketing and content creation
- Understanding of social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, Twitter)
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, or Canva)
- Proficiency in using Microsoft 365 and Google Suite applications
- Have reliable transportation to/ from assigned site(s) and CSUF
- Successfully clear fingerprinting and background check process
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous volunteer or work experience with GEAR UP or a similar organization
- Current enrollment in a postsecondary educational program
- Bilingual skills (written and verbal) in English and Spanish, or Vietnamese
EDUCATION:
- A combination of education and experience sufficient to achieve minimum qualifications, including a minimum high school diploma or equivalent
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Prolonged sitting in front of the computer. Walking, talking, hearing, pulling, bending, may carry 10-25 pounds of objects/material, not exposed to extreme noise level, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, taste or smell.
