JOB DESCRIPTION – MANAGER, PUBLIC RELATIONS
Poston Communications is seeking a Manager, Public Relations to join our growing national team.
This is a senior, client-facing role for a communications professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and brings strong relationships with journalists, a strategic mindset and a track record of producing measurable results.
The ideal candidate has experience working in a public relations agency and/or within an Am Law 200 law firm or other professional services organization, with the ability to manage complex accounts, develop smart media strategies and execute proactive outreach to top-tier business and industry media.
This role is perfect for someone who can think strategically, pitch confidently and manage client relationships with sophistication and professionalism. You will work directly with agency leadership and national clients on high-profile matters ranging from litigation and crisis communications to thought leadership and reputation building.
Poston Communications is a fully remote agency with team members located across the United States.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Public Relations Strategy & Execution
§ Develop media relations strategies that align with client business development goals and drive meaningful visibility.
§ Pitch stories and commentary opportunities to journalists at national, regional and industry trade publications, with a particular focus on business and legal media.
§ Build and maintain strong relationships with reporters, editors and producers across key outlets.
§ Develop creative story angles and media opportunities tied to client initiatives, industry trends, litigation developments and major announcements.
§ Track and report on media results, providing clients with clear insights into coverage, reach and strategic impact.
Client Leadership
§ Serve as the day-to-day lead on multiple client accounts, ensuring projects move forward efficiently and strategically.
§ Provide proactive communications counsel to sophisticated clients, including law firm leaders, executives and marketing teams.
§ Lead client meetings and presentations with confidence, clarity and strategic perspective.
§ Maintain exceptional responsiveness, professionalism and “white glove” client service.
Account & Agency Leadership
§ Manage account financials, including budgets, billing and overall account profitability.
§ Mentor and collaborate with junior team members, helping guide pitching strategy and professional development.
§ Contribute to agency business development initiatives, including identifying opportunities to expand services for existing clients and supporting new business proposals.
§ Represent the firm in professional organizations, industry groups or speaking engagements when appropriate.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Required
§ At least six (6) years of experience in public relations or strategic communications, ideally within an agency environment.
§ Experience working in a public relations agency and/or inside an Am Law 200 law firm or advising professional services organizations.
§ Demonstrated success securing media coverage in national business media, legal media and leading industry trade publications.
§ Proven ability to pitch reporters by phone and build strong journalist relationships.
§ Experience managing multiple accounts simultaneously in a fast-paced client service environment.
§ Strong client management and presentation skills.
§ Demonstrated emotional intelligence and the ability to build trust with sophisticated clients.
§ Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team culture.
Nice to Have
§ Experience supporting litigation, crisis or reputation management communications.
§ Experience advising law firm partners or professional services executives.
§ Background working in major media markets such as New York, Washington, DC, Chicago or Los Angeles.
§ Experience mentoring junior team members or managing small project teams.
§ Active involvement in professional, civic or industry organizations.
RESULTS MATTER HERE

SALARY RANGE
Salary ranges vary by geographic market and experience:
§ Major markets (New York, Washington, DC, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, Philadelphia): $85,000 – $100,000.
§ Large markets (Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Denver, Seattle): $80,000 – $100,000.
§ Mid-size markets (Minneapolis, Nashville, Phoenix, Tampa, Charlotte, Kansas City): $75,000 – $92,000.
§ Other U.S. locations: $70,000 – $85,000.
Final compensation will depend on experience, qualifications and location.
