Description
The Horticulture Supervisor position will be responsible for supervising and coordinating work crews assigned to activities and operations of the Horticulture and Forestry Division. Supervise and participate in skilled and semi-skilled activities and functions of the division. Perform highly technical services for the division, such as creating and reviewing landscape and/or irrigation plans with specifications, completing and monitoring pesticide applications, providing plant health care, maintaining plant collections, and making selections for ordering materials. Assist the manager to lead, schedule, delegate, and provide inspections for the work assigned to City staff or citizen volunteers responsible for providing horticulture services on City-owned properties and public right of way. Review work in progress and assist in correcting deficiencies. Provide, coordinate, and evaluate staff training and performance. Assist the manager in providing specifications and work plans for contracted projects and provide oversight. Lead staff with snow removal in assigned areas.
Requirements
Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in horticulture, landscape architecture, or related field. Three years of increasingly responsible experience in the field of horticulture, including one year of lead supervisory responsibility. Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid commercial driver's license (CDL), a commercial pesticide applicators license, an arborist certification, and First Aid and CPR certification.
