- Grounds and Maintenance Supervisor
Description
We are seeking a highly professional, and experienced Grounds & Maintenance Supervisor to lead a team of 28 unionized employees responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operational excellence of the grounds and facilities. This individual will oversee daily operations, manage projects, and ensure that all work is performed with dignity, precision, and respect.
This role requires a leader who communicates exceptionally well, carries themselves with professionalism, and can effectively enforce contract provisions while maintaining strong working relationships with staff, vendors, and customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and coordinate daily activities of grounds staff engaged in maintenance, repair, installation, and operations.
- Review job orders and determine work priorities.
- Establish and adjust work procedures to meet operational schedules.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism, communication, and ethical leadership.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate staff to ensure adherence to company policies and performance expectations.
- Motivate employees and foster a positive, productive work environment.
- Schedule and oversee repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment.
- Inspect operating equipment to ensure compliance with operational and safety standards.
- Assist in developing and implementing preventive maintenance programs.
- Coordinate activities involving heavy equipment and mechanical systems.
- Recommend and implement improvements to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
- Requisition tools, equipment, and supplies as needed.
- Oversee structural maintenance of buildings, grounds, and facilities.
- Inspect completed work to ensure conformance to standards.
- Administer and enforce the union contract; handle grievances in collaboration with management.
- Prepare and manage departmental budgets; monitor expenditures.
- Maintain time, production, and payroll records.
- Review production, quality control, and maintenance reports to plan and modify activities.
- Confer with management and union representatives to resolve issues and improve operations.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) preferred
- Six to eight years of related experience in grounds, maintenance, or similar fields;
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience supervising unionized employees strongly preferred.
- Background in project management, mechanics, and heavy equipment operation required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Knowledge of MIOSHA and RighttoKnow standards preferred.
