Position Summary
The position of Assistant/Associate/Professor and Coordinator of the Academic Program of Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine and Surgery Clinic Section offers an opportunity to play a key role in preparing the next generation of dental professionals through innovative teaching, comprehensive clinical supervision, and academic leadership. The successful candidate will engage in course development and delivery, mentor students in their academic and professional growth, and actively participate in curriculum enhancement and departmental initiatives. This role also includes the coordination of the academic program of Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine and Surgery clinic section, providing a unique opportunity to shape academic programming in these critical areas of dental medicine.
Essential Duties
- Responsibilities include didactic teaching for predoctoral and postgraduate students, direct supervision of comprehensive patient care in predoctoral clinics, oversight of students during dental laboratory courses, course directorship, and administrative duties as assigned.
- Develop and deliver high-quality lectures, laboratories, and seminars in your area of expertise.
- Mentor and advise dental students, guiding their academic and professional development.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the curriculum through active participation in departmental and college-wide committees.
- Coordinate the academic program of Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine and Surgery clinic section.
Research and Scholarly Activities
- Collaborate with colleagues within the institution and across the dental community.
- Engage in interdisciplinary research that aligns with the strategic goals of the UAGM Dental Medicine School.
Instructional Activities
- Deliver lectures, labs, and seminars that are engaging, evidence-based, and aligned with current best practices in dental education.
- Utilize diverse teaching methodologies to accommodate different learning styles and enhance student engagement.
- Develop assessments that accurately measure student learning and provide constructive feedback.
- Stay current with advancements in dental medicine and education to ensure the delivery of up-to-date content.
- Engage in continuous professional development to enhance teaching effectiveness.
Service
- Participate actively in departmental, college, and university service activities, including committee work and student advising.
- Contribute to the broader dental community through service to professional organizations.
- Engage in community outreach initiatives that promote the mission and vision of the UAGM School of Dental Medicine.
Qualifications
- DMD/DDS degree from a U.S. or Canadian dental school recognized by the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation.
- Candidate must possess a specialty in Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine and Surgery.
- Active dental license. Candidate must be eligible to be licensed in Puerto Rico in a reasonable amount of time.
- Five to ten (5-10) years of experience in similar roles.
- Experience in dental education, including course directorship and clinical teaching in specialties such as oral and maxillofacial medicine and surgery, is preferred.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and research in specialty area.
- Ability to effectively express orally and in writing in Spanish and English.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
- Work is primarily performed in an academic setting, including offices, lecture halls, and laboratories.
