GENERAL SUMMARY
Munsch Hardt is seeking an experienced, full-time Business Development Manager – Controversy who will manage both strategic and day-to-day marketing and business development initiatives supporting several of the Firm’s controversy practice groups. The position also supports select firmwide initiatives.
Working closely with attorneys, practice group leaders, and the Firm’s marketing leadership (Chief Business Development + Marketing Officer and the Director of Business Development + Marketing), the Manager develops and implements marketing and business development programs that enhance the Firm’s visibility, strengthen client relationships, and support practice growth. This role requires a high degree of independent judgment, strategic thinking, and coordination across multiple offices and practice groups.
The position serves as a primary marketing and business development resource for the Firm’s controversy attorneys and collaborates with internal teams to align initiatives with the Firm’s broader marketing strategy.

Practice Group Meetings + Attorney Coaching
Organizes, plans, and leads regular (monthly, quarterly, bi-annual) controversy practice group and one-on-one attorney coaching meetings, and helps coordinate follow-up action items related to marketing and business development efforts. -
Marketing Materials
Directs and manages the development of client proposals, presentations, and RFP responses for various controversy practices. Maintains and updates attorney biographies and practice and industry group descriptions to ensure marketing materials accurately reflect the Firm’s capabilities and experience. -
Business Intelligence Research
Conducts competitive intelligence and market research on clients, prospective clients, industries, and competitors using the Firm’s research tools. Provides insights that inform business development strategy and attorney outreach efforts. -
Internal Communications
Contributes to the development and distribution of the Firm’s Internal Business Development Newsletter and other internal communications that highlight client developments, attorney achievements, and marketing initiatives. -
Awards + Surveys
Identifies and evaluates award and survey opportunities that enhance the visibility of the Firm’s controversy practices. Manages the submission process from start to finish, collaborating with attorneys to develop compelling content and ensuring timely and accurate submission. -
Public Relations
Works closely with controversy attorneys to identify newsworthy matters, thought leadership opportunities, and other developments that can be promoted through media outreach. Provides strategic guidance on article topics and media opportunities in collaboration with the Firm’s PR agency and Marketing team. -
Advertising + Market Visibility
Evaluates and recommends advertising opportunities that promote the Firm’s controversy practices in targeted legal, business, and industry publications. Assists in the development of advertising content to ensure alignment with the Firm’s brand and marketing priorities. -
Content Review + Quality Control
Proofreads and reviews marketing materials to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to the Firm’s brand standards. -
Market Initiatives
Supports the Firm’s other offices (Austin, Houston, and Fort Worth) by coordinating local business development and marketing initiatives in collaboration with marketing leadership. Assists in the development and execution of the market strategies and regularly engages with attorneys in other offices to support local business development efforts. -
Women’s Initiative Group Support
Coordinates marketing and organizational initiatives for the Firm’s Women’s Initiative Group, including planning meetings and events, assisting with communications, and serving as a primary point of contact for attorney engagement and program coordination.
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS
- 6+ years of experience within the marketing and/or business development department of a corporate law firm, the AEC industry, or other professional services firm, with an understanding of the legal industry.
- Advanced understanding of marketing concepts, principles, and activities in a B2B environment, as well as the proactive and reactive nature of a marketing department within a professional services firm.
- Meaningful strategic business planning and implementation experience.
- Superior writing, proofreading, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Charismatic personality and outstanding client service mentality.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize, multitask, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure.
- Ability to communicate professionally with both internal and external clients on all levels.

REQUIRED EDUCATION
- Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or other related fields.
