WUSF public media is a leading source of news, information, and cultural enrichment for West Central Florida. We reach over one million people monthly through our NPR news station WUSF 89.7, Classical WSMR 89.1 & 103.9, and an extensive digital presence including live streaming, podcasts, newsletters, and social media. As a department of the University of South Florida, we have a dedicated team of 80 professionals and an annual budget of $10 million. Our professional staff works closely with talented student interns. Our main studios are on the USF Tampa campus, with additional broadcast and production facilities on the USFSM and USFSP campuses.
Job Description
The Assistant Director, Sales & Marketing is responsible for cultivating and soliciting corporate and non-profit financial support (underwriting) for all WUSF Public Media platforms and events, including analog and digital broadcast, online and digital, and achieving annual revenue goals. As the Assistant Sales Manager, Director, Sales & Marketing, they will help lead the sales team by mentoring Account Executives, running department operations in the manager's absence, and improving processes and materials.
Responsibilities
Cultivate and solicit media sales from commercial enterprises, businesses, and non-profit organizations (underwriting), and achieve annual revenue goals. Manage the sales and sales relationship process by developing and maintaining corporate sales by prospecting, generating qualified leads, cultivating the client's relationship with WUSF Public Media, and presenting sales proposals that result in a signed agreement. Media sales products include, but are not limited to WUSF 89.7 NPR, Classical WSMR 89.1 and 103.9, HD broadcast channels, event sponsorship, and various digital products, including websites, newsletters, streaming pre-roll, and podcasts.
Collaborate with the Director of Sales and Marketing and the Media Sales Assistant to prepare packages and materials for the sales team. Mentor and lead Sales Representatives, providing them with guidance and support for their professional development.
Conduct sales meetings and manage the department's needs in the absence of the Sales Manager.
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and make structural changes to existing contracts, copy, traffic systems, and protocols.
Steward sponsors and clients through strong customer service and deep relationships, including the resolution of past due accounts, billing discrepancies, and scheduling discrepancies.
Attend external functions and other community-based events for lead generation. This could include Chamber of Commerce meetings, business functions, and station-sponsored events. Attend sales and staff meetings. Assist with station events as needed.
Liaison with internal departments (Programming, Production, Traffic, Business Office) to ensure proper execution at every level of the media sales agreement.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Minimum qualifications:
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of four years of related exempt experience, including two years of supervisory experience; or a combination of eight years of broadcast-related work experience and training, including two years of supervisory experience.

SB 1310: Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements
A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required, not to exceed:
(a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree;
(b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree;
(c) Six years of direct experience for a master’s degree;
(d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or
(e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree
Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.
Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree and three to five years of experience in broadcast sales or media sales. Experience in digital media sales.
