The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Applications Administrator. In this key role, you will ensure the installation, configuration and maintenance of enterprise applications (on-premises, cloud or hybrid). The RTA oversees financing, secures funding, and conducts transit planning for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), Metra, and Pace. The RTA manages these three Service Boards’ five-year capital programs. Also, to help riders with disabilities and older adults across Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, and Will counties, the agency issues Reduced Fare and Ride Free permits, assesses eligibility for ADA Paratransit service, and oversees specialized travel training support initiatives.
Under the direction of the Director, Application Services, the position ensures the procurement, installation, and support of applications used by the RTA. The Applications Administrator is responsible for user management, application configuration and optimization, technical documentation, software upgrades and migrations, and database administration. The position will coordinate with both internal IT and external resources to provide technical support, resolve incidents, and address project requests.
Requirements
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Maintain software applications by coordinating new software release, fixes and updates with technical teams and users.
- Manage security at the user level including setting up new users, determining and documenting appropriate permissions and approvals.
- Collaborate with internal system users and business process owners to analyze, develop, implement, and maintain new and improved processes and procedures.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application and user access issues.
- Manage data conversions, SQL databases, reporting, and all other technical aspects of the system.
- Provide support for all interfaces in and out of software applications.
- Develop technical documentation and coordinate implementation activities.
- Acts in a manner which is consistent with RTA’s strategic goals and objectives as approved by the Board of Directors, while providing service of the highest level to our customers – both internal and external. Ensures the confidentiality of all information.
- Performs other related duties as required or assigned that contribute to the effectiveness of the department and the RTA.
The ideal candidate must have the following:
- The ideal candidate has the knowledge, skills, and abilities equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field required.
- A minimum of four and six years (4-6) experience supporting software applications delivered through a Software-as-a-Service subscription and in a client/server delivery model required.
- Experience with administering a cloud-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is desirable and experience with Infor CloudSuite ERP solution is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving, methodology and the ability to work with a variety of individuals and diverse populations with minimum supervision.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain problems and solutions clearly to end-users in non-technical terms and the ability to work calmly and professionally.
- Must be highly organized, flexible, detail orientated and the ability to work both independently and as a team.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, with strong analytical skills coupled with technical creativity and vision.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
Skills
Demonstrated proficiency in the following software products is required:
- Windows Server
- SQL Server
- Microsoft 365
- Knowledge of software should be sufficient to create applications, install and implement software independently.
- Basic understanding of business processes, including accounting, procurement, talent human resources.
- Demonstrated proficiency in utilization of system analysis techniques to define application requirements is required.
Work Environment
- Period lifting and moving computer equipment weighing up to 35lbs. as required.
- Period after hours and weekend duty.

This role typically offers salaries near $82,500, and the RTA offers competitive salaries with the possibility of a higher offer for highly qualified candidates.
